Fanny Wang 3000 ANC Headphones Review

Fanny Wang 3000 WhiteOK, so here’s our Fanny Wang 3000 ANC Headphones Review. Strange name that, but once you get past it there’s a set of really nice looking headphones that need a review..

Overall Rating:   3.6 Stars (3.6 / 5)

The Fanny Wang 3000 headphones come in a really great looking box, and in fact the headphones themselves look really good as well. Here at NC Headphones though we’re more interested in other things, like how the music sounds, and how good the noise cancellation is when your’e wearing them.

Transporting the Headphones
So moving on, inside the box are the headphones packed inside their carry-case, which incidentally is a semi-soft shell type.Fanny Wang 3000 Carry Case Black There is a carabiner clip fixed to the case which could allow you to clip it to the side of your bag when travelling. I wouldn’t recommend this though as that would be an open invitation to any thieves to try to steal them.

The shape of the headphone case makes it quite awkward to pack inside your bag and getting the headphones safely stowed inside we found was a bit of a struggle, especially getting the zip closed. As the case is a semi-soft shell type it didn’t seem to offer much protection from damage either.

What’s the Finish Like on These Headphones?

The finish on the headphones is a matte rubber, which is OK, and seems par for the course these days as a lot of other manufacturers are also using it in their designs. Fanny Wang 3000 Cable The headphone cable is also rubberized and has an inline remote switch that can be used to turn the volume up and down and gives you play and pause control on most attached devices. The cable also has a built in inline port, a Duo Jack ConnectorFanny Wang 3000 Duo Jackpatent pending, so that you can share your music or whatever you are listening to with a friend which is a nice touch.

Controlling the Active Noise Cancelling
A 3-way switch on the headphone earcup controls the Active Noise Cancelling function. You can choose to switch ANC off, where you can listen to your music without noise cancellation and also saves your batteries. The middle switch position turns the ANC on, and the last switch position gives a bass boost, together with Active noise cancellation.
Fanny Wang 3000 Earcup Switch When the switch is in the bass boost position it seems to not only increase the bass but also gives the volume a bit of a boost as well – so watch out for that!

Over the Ear Earcups and Noise Isolation

The Fanny Wang 3000 headphones are an over the ear type otherwise known as circumaural, which means that even without playing any music you get a certain amount of noise isolation from environmental sounds. This can be useful if you just want to shut out airplane or traffic noise, people noise etc to get to sleep, or have a rest when travelling. The memory foam padding used in the ear cups ensures a good seal of the headphones to your head and there are tiny vents inside the earcups that help to stop them to avoid overheating while in use. The cups can also be swiveled around which can also help you to get a good fit which is essential for getting the best out of the noise cancelation.

More about the Fanny Wang 3000 Noise Cancellation

The Fanny Wang 3000 noise cancelling works passively because of the over the ear design and also actively due to the Active Noise Cancellation circuitry built into the headphones earcups. The ANC Circuitry needs 2 AAA batteries to work and these are located underneath the left hand ear cup panel. The headphones still work if the battery power runs out and you do still get a certain amount of passive noise isolation thanks to the earcups being of the over the ear type.

What About The Sound Quality of the Over The Ear Wangs?

The 4-way active noise cancelling used in the Fanny Wang 3000’s is OK and serves its purpose removing most ambient sound interference and seems to up the volume a bit. Trebles and the mid-range seem to be boosted but in comparison there seems to be mostly no change to the bass. Don’t forget that the headphones have the Bass Boost switch that can increase the bass when you have the ANC turned on. The Fanny Wangs give you a lot of bass to play with, so if you like your music really bass heavy then these could be the headphones for you. On the other hand if you are a classical music buff then the ultra heavy bass is going to be a bit too much for your taste. In the main, the headphones were reasonably controlled in the mid to high ranges but the bass was really prominent and was really pulsating with dance tracks. If your listening at a reasonable volume then you need to be aware that there is quite a degree of sound leakage apparent from the earcups that may disturb people sitting near you.

Are They Comfortable to Wear?

The headphones were very comfortable in use. They were quite light in weight and the earcups did not make our ears get hot due to the built in vents.

Who are they for?

We think that these headphones would appeal to a more style conscious younger audience due to their ultra-fashionable appearance.  They are probably in the same market segment as the Dr Dre Beats and the Soul by Ludacris SL300 headsets. They might not however suit the audiophiles amongst you as there is definitely a better more-balanced sound quality to be achieved elsewhere such as with the Bose QuietComfort 15 and the AKG K495.

What we liked about the Fanny Wangs

These headphones offer great styling and are really comfortable and cool when worn over long periods. The offer good noise isolation due to the over the ear ear cups and the active Noise Cancelling circuitry is pretty good as well. These headphones can produce a lot of bass when used with the bass boost feature turned on and its great to be able to share a few tracks with your friends using the Duo Jack cable socket.

What were the drawbacks

The sound has a lot of bass and this unbalanced sound might prove a bit too much for those of you that prefer a more relaxed and neutral listening experience. For this reason we think that the audiophiles and classical music listeners among you might be best looking at the Bose QuietComfort 15 or the AKG K495 as previously stated. It can be a bit of a struggle getting the headphones into the case as the headphones are a really tight fit.
